Ethos and Vision

The Westminster Specialist College (SPI) provides specialist education for young people aged 19 – 25 who have a primary diagnosis of Moderate Learning Difficulty as defined in their Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The provision is relatively small at the moment with only 12 students on roll. This is expected to grow in the coming years.

Our vision is to be a class-leading centre for supporting and celebrating academic, personal and social achievements. Our values that underpin everything with do are two-fold:

We aim to:

– Provide outstanding educational experiences for students with special educational needs by continually building on the expertise and experience of the staff.
– Provide a purposeful and truly functional environment where the entire college community works towards a pathway of independence and paid employment.
– Provide a college environment that promotes the principles of Safe, Happy and Working Together.
– Create supportive environment for each student where individual achievement, success and the joy of learning is celebrated by staff working as a team for the well-being of all.
– Enabling each student to develop a positive sense of worth and self-esteem by nurturing their skills in vocational and leisure activities to increase their capacity and capability to overcome barriers and challenges in life.
– To develop and maintain relationships with adults in their own community so they able take an active role in society.
– Enabling each student to achieve their full potential by providing a challenging, self- motivating and encouraging broad and balanced curriculum that is continuously, thoroughly and systematically assessed, but tailored to the individual need of each student.
– Creating a caring environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect and each individual valued for their own unique talents.
